Chiefly papers relating to the 1963-1964 North Carolina gubernatorial campaign of Dan K. Moore and Johnson's work as publicity director, including correspondence, speeches and news releases arranged by issues forming planks in the 1964 Democratic Party platform, and speeches; together with final versions and drafts of Governor Moore's inaugural address and legislative message, letters seeking patronage, and congratulatory letters from supports. Also includes two folders of materials from the years in which Johnson was on the staff of the governor's office (1958-1963): speeches composed by Johnson for Lt. Gov. H. Cloyd Philpott and related correspondence (1960-1961) and tape recording of an interview (1960) with Gov. Luther H. Hodges in which he reminisces about his long administration.
